February Blog

In George Washington's farewell address, he makes a few points or warning. First, George warned that the party system might be distracting and very weak for the Public Administration. Second, he emphasized how important religion and ethics are. Third, he supported the strong public acknowledgement. Fourth, George warned against the changeless foreign agreements. Fifth, he warned about an over-controlling military system. One example of how America has failed to listen and follow through on what Washington warned us about is we have lost many ethics. The Human Genome Project did and article on how ethics have changed for the worse and needs to be addressed. It stresses that we need to change how genetic information  is used and how much privacy it has and stem cell research needs to have boundries. George Washington wanted to build our nation on ethics and we are loosing them, such as the current problem concerning genetic information and stem cell research.

In John F. Kennedy's farewell address, he talks about many problems that are in action or might be coming. First, John states that the next President needs to put the national benefits before the politics. Second, he says that there are no fast clean ups for dilemmas.Third, he warned the we need to not spend more than we need to. Fourth, we need to not do what we want instead of what we need, like lately the past Presidents have been paying more attention to world problems rather than our own. One topic John F. Kennedy warned us about, we failed to listen and follow is focus on our problems rather than the world issues. In the ABC news it goes further in detail about this topic. It states that helping in the Iraq War is hurting our economy. This is because, our government is paying more attention and money towards the war, when we need to be focusing on our own economic problems. It also says that our President has proposed a $670 billion dollar tax cut when it is predicted that our country will use $10 trillion, in the years to come, to help with the Iraq war.

  1. Good summary of the points made by Washington and Fisenhower in their farewell addresses; but you needed to add a little more explanation to help clarify your understandings.

Good discussion and explanation of the news articles and how they related to the points expressed by Washinton and Eisenhower (not John F. Kennedy). Great job. Mr. K
